Gavin, Elizabeth and family welcome you to our trattoria — established 2021, and built on the traditions of family and community we hold closest to our hearts.
Most restaurants buy their fittings from a catalogue. Where we could, we built our own instead — the wine racks, the counters between you and the kitchen, and the wood-fired oven the pizza is born in were all built here, by hand. Where furniture has needed replacing over the years, we've leaned on refurbishing and reusing rather than starting from scratch.
Nobody on this team is treated as a hire. The people cooking your food and clearing your table are treated the way we'd treat our own — because that's what makes the room feel warm the moment you walk in.
The kitchen you can't see runs as clean as the room you can. We hold ourselves to a standard of cleanliness that has nothing to do with passing an inspection and everything to do with pride in the work.
This is a traditional trattoria in the oldest sense — food made with love, from people who care whether you enjoyed it, not just whether the table turned over.
We bring our live oysters in from Knysna Oyster Co. — a South African supplier trusted enough to export internationally, as far as Dubai. If it's good enough to fly around the world, it's good enough for the table in front of you.
See Them On The Menu
"A trattoria isn't a style of menu. It's a way of treating people — the ones cooking, and the ones eating."
— The Philosophy Behind Gavin's
We're proud of every accolade below — not because of the trophies themselves, but because each one comes from guests who took the time to vote.
Traditional trattoria cooking, wood-fired pizza, and a kitchen that treats you like family from the first table.
